Habitat for Humanity Huronia consists of the head office which is in Barrie and controls the Barrie operations and the New Tecumseth Chapter. The Chapter plans builds, fundraises, and carries out all Habitat activities on behalf of the Affiliate. Up until this year, the Orillia/Lake Country Chapter was part of Habitat-Huronia, but has recently been granted full Affiliate status from Habitat Canada. We wish them much success! For more information on the structure of our affiliate call the office in Barrie at 705-727-0802.
Habitat for Humanity Huronia seeks to provide the pride and responsibility of home ownership to low income families, and to work towards eliminating substandard housing one house at a time.
We work by organizing volunteers and obtaining donations of money and materials so that we can build houses in partnership with people in need of simple, decent, and affordable homes.
The homes are sold to our partnering families, usually working low income families, at cost. The families pay for their homes in two ways: they invest
Sweat Equity, which is voluntary work hours in support of the organization and they make monthly payments on a long-term, no-interest mortgage.
The mortgage monies are then contributed back into our working funds, which are used to build more houses with more families. Most donors appreciate knowing that their funds will recycle to benefit more than one family.
