Before we were married, my husband and I were in a major hit and run car accident. Due to both pressure and naivety, we settled with the insurance company before we knew the repercussions the accident would have on my husband’s health.
Years later, plagued by my husband’s still undiagnosed health issues and expecting our first child, we decided to move in with my mom to save some money and try to put together a plan for our future.
Unfortunately, my husband’s health issues have continued with no relief, causing him to leave his dream job due to unpredictable and uncontrollable flare-ups. After the birth of our second child, living with my Mom started to become less than ideal. Living with two young children has taken a toll on my Mom’s health, being a senior, her immune system could not keep up with the daycare “sniffles” that were constantly coming home, or the sleepless nights hearing a baby crying. I couldn’t bear to see both my mother and my husband’s health deteriorate.
That’s when my Aunt mentioned Habitat for Humanity. She had known of someone going through the program and recommended it to us. Now my son is bragging to his Jr Kindergarten class that “We’re moving!” and my husband and I are finally able to build our family home.
