What is a Habitat ReStore and how does it help the community?
Habitat for Humanity ReStores accept and resell quality new and used items. Shopping at a Habitat ReStore is a socially conscious decision, as funds generated are used to fund local Habitat for Humanity homebuilding projects. It’s also an environmentally conscious decision, as much of what is sold is product that is new, gently used or customer returns that would otherwise end up in a landfill.
Seems like a great idea!
It is, and it’s a Canadian idea at that. Every ReStore is different, offering a unique shopping experience for those looking to add something new to their homes. The inventory is always changing, as new items are donated by local residents and businesses daily. Consumers can expect to find items such as windows, doors, paint, hardware, lumber, tools, lighting fixtures, furniture, decor, and appliances.
Volunteers are vital to our mission to build affordable housing for Partner Families and you help to divert materials from our landfills. Volunteering at Habitat ReStores is fun and makes a big difference to our community. We have shifts that can fit your busy schedule, for individuals or for your group.
All volunteers must complete our Safety Orientation Session in our ReStore. We are an inclusive and unique volunteer experience to many people. We have many retirees, job training, co-operative and high school students... It's a great opportunity for 40 hours of school community service.
Please note that all volunteers must wear CSA Approved Safety footwear is required in our facilities.
Do you have an older car, truck, van, trailer, or RV taking up valuable space in your yard? Car donations are another way to support the mission of Habitat for Humanity.. When you donate a car to Cars to Homes you will help build homes in partnership with families in need of affordable shelter. Helping them with a Hand up, Not a Hand out.
