Meet Mara, David and Family!

Dave and I never thought that we could ever become home owners. It was always more of an empty promise with our "maybes" and "one day" to each other. Our story unfortunately is similar to so many other Canadians. Growing up, we were taught if you work hard you can trust that the daily grind will provide for your family. It always felt like we were missing a key piece. With all the gruelling hours we have worked, why is it so hard to reach a goal that we were brought up to believe is such an attainable reward for putting in the time. For many years we both continued pouring our efforts into our jobs to rent a house that we seemed to hardly ever be at. Our issue was never with the hard work, it's that the average income wasn't designed to compete with the rising demands of the economy and rent costs. Every year we would just tell ourselves: "Next year will be better, maybe things will balance out...one day, things will get easier" but then the years kept on piling up with our seemingly silly thoughts of "one day."

A little while ago, Dave's sister asked us if we had ever heard of the home ownership program from Habitat for Humanity. She suggested we try applying and see if we qualify. We did our research and feeling hopeful for the first time, we applied. We are so thankful we did, because the opportunity we were offered was a true blessing. This house is down the road from the school our kids currently attend. This house is right beside the grocery store we go to every week. This home is around the corner from family we see all the time for the kids to play. It is only a few minute drive from where we are currently renting. With Habitat For Humanity Huronia’s support and generosity, our "one day" is actually a reality that amazingly kept us right where our heart is.
