Meet Megan and Family!

We are the Moffat Three!

My name is Megan and I have lived in Barrie for the majority of my life. I am grateful to have my parents and sister living in town as well.

My son Michael, is a grade seven student and the absolute best big brother I could have ever imagined. He is a safety patroller at school and involved in Scouts as well. He loves anything related to technology, especially the Nintendo Switch he saved and bought himself.

My daughter Everlee, is a spicy almost three-nager! She completed our family and brings a laugh wherever she goes. She thought about ballet but has since decided she would rather be a swimmer!

I made mistakes with credit payments a decade ago, and did not understand how they would impact my family's future. The long term consequences of having to rebuild my credit prevented me from purchasing a home for my family. I wanted to stay close to my family in Barrie but the housing market has grown unrealistic, especially on a single income.

My entire experience with the Habitat for Humanity Huronia team has been a wonderful twist of fate since the beginning of the application process. A coworker introduced me to a member of the team, and he encouraged me to apply. I knew little about the program and could not understand how I could even be considered, let alone approved! I rent a semi-detached home and am gainfully employed. I did not think I fit into what they were looking for. He explained the program was designed for hard-working families to have the opportunity for home-ownership.

I have struggled finding the words to explain what home ownership would mean to my family.  I have made every place we rented look like our home. I have always taken great pride in every place we have lived, from painting to landscaping to pictures on the wall. This partnership with Habitat will show my children that hard work and drive can get you to your dreams. I am eagerly awaiting the start of our build. I cannot wait to be active in the construction of our home, and to involve Michael as well!

My dream was a home of our own, for my family. My son will understand what this move means, and is excited to be closer to his soon to be high school. My daughter will grow up in this home.
