Meet Michelle!
As a single mom of two amazing children my struggle has always been making ends meet. After my marriage ended I honestly thought that homeownership wasn’t in the cards for me.
Nevertheless, I saved every dollar I could from my full time job. But after rent, bills, food, and gas, there wasn’t much left. In addition to saving money for a home, I noticed my children quickly growing out of our small apartment. Their rooms are small and when you add a bed and dressers and of course the toys, there isn’t much room left for anything else.
A home of our own would mean more room to move and hopefully a yard and basement which we desperately needed. A couple of coworkers encouraged me to apply for a home through Habitat for Humanity. Not thinking they would approve me, I did. Much to my surprise, they did approve my family and I for home-ownership! My kids and I are so excited and grateful for this amazing opportunity.
Everyone I have met through Habitat has been amazing. I never knew there were so many thoughtful generous people out there. My children and I will be so looking forward to a home of our own closer to my job. No longer having to commute 45 mins to work and back will allow me to spend more quality time with them. If you ask my children, they will say they are most excited to paint their rooms the colour they want.
I am most looking forward to being a homeowner and having the pride to make it my own by decorating and gardening. This opportunity has truly been a blessing for our family. We will definitely be ‘paying it forward’ for many years to come!
